I recently saw hanging on a meeting room wall these words by Howard Booth, which contain a pithy challenge and an invitation God is not a good habit, a useful Sunday exercise, one interest among others, a fascinating hobby.

God is (more than) life itself. He is not someone to be analyzed, examined, proved, but to be met. And when that happens life unfolds, meanings matter, love is deeper.

Be still. Relax. Unwind. Open those inner doors. I wonder how often we make space and time to really think about life and enjoy the presence of God?

God sees when we sit down and when we get up, reads our thoughts from a distance, and knows what we are going to say before we open our mouths. All the days we will live are set before we were born. Like the Psalmist who penned these words (Ps 139), I find these ideas mindblowing, but also very comforting.

Though our finite minds will never understand the mysterious ways of God, who is both bigger than we can imagine, and closer to us than we think, we can trust his heart which Jesus shows us is pure love.
